Si vous êtes branché soirées dans les clubs du Lower East Side de NY, vous êtes certainement tombés sur cette jeune performer New Yorkaise d'origine italienne passionnée de musique, fan de David Bowie et de Queen (elle tire son nom du titre Radio Gaga).

En vraie showgirl, Lady Gaga s'est fait un nom dans les clubs avec un premier titre pop-dance contagieux Beautiful Dirty Rich et des performances arty, trash-glamour et sans tabou. La miss danse, chante, joue du synthé, s'improvise DJ et retourne chaque lieu dans lequel elle passe. Elle finit même son show suspendue à une boule à facettes sur la musique d'Orange Mécanique.

C'est dans ce contexte peu banal qu'elle rencontre Akon et Red One (à l'origine de tubes pour Kat Deluna, Shakira, Enrique Iglesias, Michael Jackson...). Stupéfaits par le personnage, ils décident de la signer sur Konlive (le label d'Akon) / Interscope et de produire son premier opus. The Fame ("La célébrité") est le titre de cet album aux sonorités pop, dance, rock et urbaines. Lady Gaga a écrit tous ses textes, composé l'ensemble des mélodies et joué la plupart des parties de synthé.

En 2008, le buzz va grandissant sur l'artiste aux Etats-Unis. La communauté gay se l'est déjà accaparée, la presse branchée et internet se penchent sur cette drôle de «créature» et son premier tube pop-dance Just Dance commence à tourner partout !

Côté remixes, le single bénéficie de plusieurs versions alternatives signées Guéna LG (Nelly Furtado, Enrique Iglesias, Gwen Stefani...), du Canadien Richard Vission (Madonna, Justin Timberlake, David Bowie...), de HCCR alias Harry Choo Choo Romero (Bob Sinclar, Maroon 5) et de Trevor Simpson (Seal...).
